If you are looking for a way to off-set the cost of attending Bethel University, the Army ROTC program offers access to campus-based scholarship opportunities which cover 100 percent tuition, $1,200 book stipend and up to a $500 monthly stipend.

How much time will it take up?

You will have one 2 hour lecture and one 2 hour lab each week. You will also have 2–3 hours of physical training (broken down an hour at a time). You will need to attend one 48 hour field exercise in the fall and one in the spring. The Army ROTC experience is designed to complement your college experience, not be the whole of it.

What is the time commitment after I graduate and earn my commission?

If you receive scholarship benefits, you will be required to serve either a four years active duty (full time) followed by 4 years in the reserves (inactive) or eight years as a drilling reservist (one weekend a month and two weeks a year during the summer) depending on which path (active duty vs. reserve duty) upon commissioning.

Do I have to wear a uniform everywhere/all the time?

No. This is not a service academy. You only wear your uniform to ROTC classes and events.

What would you do in the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant?

You would immediately be in charge of about 30 soldiers and $5 million worth of equipment. You would train them, lead them, develop them and take care of them. As far as your job specialty, there is something for everybody. There are opportunities for full-time (active duty) service and part-time (Army Reserves or National Guard) service in any of the following career specialty areas:

  • Combat Arms (involved in direct combat operations): Infantry, Armor, Field Artillery, Air Defense Artillery, Aviation, Corps of Engineers (combat), and Special Forces
  • Combat Support (support combat arms soldiers, not normally involved in direct combat roles): Military Intelligence, Military Police, Signal Corps, Chemical Corps, and Corps of Engineers (construction)
  • Combat Service Support (provide logistical and administrative support): Quartermaster Corps, Finance Corps, Adjutant General Corps, Transportation Corps, and Ordnance Corps
  • Specialty Branches: Army JAG Corps, Army Medical Corps, Army Nurse Corps, Army Dental Corps, Army Veterinary Corps, and the Army Chaplains Corps

What is provided by the scholarship package?

Full tuition, $1,200 a year for books, and a monthly allowance: freshmen $300, sophomore $350, junior $450, and senior $500. Room and board IS NOT INCLUDED.

How do I qualify for an Army ROTC Scholarship?
