You’ll gain career-shaping skills such as:
- How to analyze, interpret, and evaluate works of art, history, philosophy, and literature with empathy, charity, and critical insight.
- How to produce clearly and creatively written essays, research papers, and other texts addressing various topics in the humanities.
- Understand some intellectual and cultural forces and movements that have shaped the world and your own life.
- Enter “the great conversation” with and about great books, great art, and great ideas — from the perspective of a Christian worldview — with confidence and competence; appreciate the connections between the various humanities sub-disciplines (history, literature, philosophy, etc.).
- Identify ways in which the study of humanities has contributed to your own character, spiritual and intellectual formation.
- Students try to synthesize their learning during a year-long Humanities Project by producing a portfolio and final project. Recent projects have included novel-length fiction, book-length memoirs, research essays and even films. This project becomes part of the student’s e-portfolio.
