Bethel’s Master of Arts in Teaching builds on your Transition to Teaching program, converting those credits into a streamlined path to a master’s degree. With only 12–18 additional credits, you’ll deepen your expertise in instruction, curriculum, research and leadership for roles in and beyond the classroom.

Bethel’s Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) is designed for students who have completed the Transition to Teaching program and want to take the next step in their professional growth. Transition to Teaching credits apply directly toward the MAT, allowing you to earn a master’s degree with just 12–18 additional credits. Through core coursework in leadership and educational research, plus targeted electives, you’ll be equipped for advanced classroom practice and leadership opportunities within and beyond PK–12 schools.
Required Core – 6 credit hours:
- EDUC 500: Professional Development & Leadership – Intro (1)
- EDUC 555: Educational Research (3)
- EDUC 690: Professional Development & Leadership – Capstone (2)
Electives to complete the degree selected from the following:
- EDUC 521: Curriculum Development & School Improvement (3)
- EDUC 531: Effective Instruction & Assessment (3)
- EDUC 541: Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners (3)
- EDUC XXX: Approved Seminars or other courses (1-3)
Electives to complete the degree selected from the following:
- A seamless pathway from Transition to Teaching into a full MAT degree
- A focused 6-credit core in professional development, leadership and educational research
- Elective options in curriculum development and school improvement
- Coursework on effective instruction and assessment to enhance classroom practice
- Preparation to meet the needs of diverse learners in today’s schools
- Opportunities to personalize your degree with approved seminars and additional course options
- Skills that support both classroom excellence and broader educational leadership roles
Graduates are prepared for roles such as:
- School Principal (with appropriate licensure)
- Instructional Coordinator
- Librarian/Media Specialist
- Training and Development Specialist
- Curriculum Developer
- Instructional Coach
- Education Program Coordinator (PK–12 or community)
Obtaining a License in Another State:
Indiana participates in a license reciprocity compact with most states. If you hold a valid Indiana license, obtaining a license elsewhere is often straightforward. First obtain your Indiana license, then review the specific requirements of the state where you seek licensure, as coursework, testing or GPA expectations may differ.
