Intercultural Studies major, Business minor
Jonny Maloney ’24 is an intercultural studies major with a heart to be in ministry overseas. Having grown up as a pastor’s kid in the Missionary Church, he has taken several international mission trips with his dad and with Bethel University. This made the college decision an easy one for him.
From a young age, Maloney knew that he wanted to attend Bethel. He is the latest of several members of his family to attend the university, and the intercultural studies program provided the avenue for him to continue the legacy.
The courses Maloney has taken at Bethel have confirmed the call to missions that God has placed on his life. The relationships he’s developed while on campus have exemplified the way that speaking Jesus into every situation is as much about what he has to say as it is the way he loves and interacts with those around him.
Maloney has received scholarships for being a Missionary Church denomination pastor’s kid as well as academic and religion and philosophy departmental awards. Because of large donations to scholarship funds, he has been blessed to be able to look toward the mission field.
“I don’t want to have that much debt going into the mission field, so I’m trying to pay that off. But the fact that I haven’t had to worry about that too much has been super nice. And just really a God thing,” Maloney said.
These scholarships from donors have given Maloney the freedom to trust God with the uncertain future that comes with mission work. Knowing that God has provided his scholarships allows him to have confidence that He will provide funding for the future.
“Just to know that He’s got me,” Maloney explains, “I can trust in Him.”
