Bethel University will celebrate the birthday of former Governor of Indiana Dr. Otis R. Bowen at the “Bowen Birthday Bash” on Wed., Feb. 26 from 2-4 p.m. in the Bowen Museum, located in the Otis and Elizabeth Bowen Library building on Bethel’s campus.
The event, primarily for Bethel students, is designed to generate interest in the Bowen Museum, which houses artifacts from Dr. Bowen’s life – from his early years, to his career as an obstetrician, to his tenure as governor of Indiana (1973-1981) and Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Ronald Regan (1985-1989). Dr. Bowen passed away on May 4, 2013. This year would have marked his 107th birthday.
“Bethel University is honored to house the artifacts of such a significant historical figure in the state of Indiana,” says Abson Joseph, Ph.D., vice president for academic services at Bethel University. “We hope students will take the opportunity to explore the museum as we honor Dr. Bowen’s birthday.”
Students will be able to enjoy cake and punch, try on replicas of Doc Bowen’s iconic horn-rimmed glasses and tour the museum. Those who snap a selfie with Bowen’s bust and post to Instagram with the #DocBowen will be entered for a chance to win a $40 Amazon gift card*.
The event is free, and no RSVP is required.
The Bowen Museum is open by appointment. Learn more by contacting Kevin Blowers at Kevin.Blowers@BethelUniversity.edu.
