Bethel University Named a 2025-2026 College of Distinction

National guide honors institutions with a student-centered approach to undergraduate education

In a higher education landscape often dominated by rankings and test scores, Bethel University has been recognized for what truly matters: a transformative undergraduate experience. For the 2025-2026 academic year, Bethel University has been named a College of Distinction, a prestigious designation awarded to schools whose commitment to engaged, experiential education sets them apart.

In addition to being named a College of Distinction, Bethel University has also been named a Christian College of Distinction, an Indiana College of Distinction, an International College of Distinction and recognized for Business, Education and Nursing.

This recognition is based on Colleges of Distinction’s unique evaluating criteria known as the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community and Successful Outcomes. Through extensive research and interviews, Colleges of Distinction identifies institutions that make a meaningful impact on students’ lives, not just ones that fight their way to the top of rankings lists.

“Bethel University has crafted a campus culture where students are empowered to take ownership of their learning,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer at Colleges of Distinction. “Its programs reflect the kind of innovation and intentionality that prepare students for life after graduation.”

Unlike rankings that focus on prestige-driven metrics, Colleges of Distinction highlights schools that champion educational impact. That includes everything from first-year seminars and collaborative projects to undergraduate research, global learning, and internships. Bethel University’s inclusion is a result of its commitment to these high-impact practices and the personalized support it offers students throughout their college journey.

“We’ve never believed in ranking schools,” Schritter continued. “Our goal is to celebrate institutions that help students find their place, their purpose, and their potential. Bethel University stands out for creating an environment where students thrive not just academically, but as whole people.”

Faculty Feature: Dr. David Stauffer

David Stauffer, Ed.D., associate professor of marketing at Bethel University, brings a rich background of experience in business and ministry to the classroom. He started his career at PepsiCo, working for the Pizza Hut division, and was promoted seven times in 15 years to eventually serve as a management executive for the Midwest and southern regions. He also spent time as a business manager for a private Christian school, a director of operations, a leadership and management trainer and a pastor for 25 years, currently at Journey Church in Plymouth, Ind. But he says one of his favorite roles has been teaching.

“For me, it’s the students. My goal is literally to educate, equip and empower students to reach their God-given potential in their chosen career,” he says.

Stauffer first began teaching at Bethel in an adjunct role in 2004 and became full-time in 2021, after teaching for six years at another college. Over the years, he has taught business, marketing, and theology classes for traditional, adult and graduate programs. He’s also spent time mentoring students – something he’s passionate about since mentors have made such an impact in his own life and career.

“When I was in business there were two or three very instrumental mentors in my life. From a leadership perspective – Dr. Mike Cramer’s influence [at New Life Church in Osceola, Ind.] is what got me started in ministry,” says Stauffer.

Outside the classroom, he enjoys spending time with his wife in “the Babe” – his 1981 black Corvette she gifted him for a milestone birthday. He also enjoys time with his three children and four grandchildren, and driving up to Redamak’s in New Buffalo, Mich. And if you see him in a coffee shop, you will find him ordering English Breakfast tea, a nod to his British grandparents.

Each year, he looks forward to the opportunity to influence the next class of Bethel business students to pursue business for the glory of God and the good of society (Col. 3:23).

“My favorite part of teaching at Bethel is the students – nothing else is even close,” he says.
