Bethel University’s 34th annual campus-wide Service Day will take place on Tues., Sept. 26, sponsored by Lake City Bank.

“Lake City Bank is proud to be part of Bethel University’s Annual Service Day,” said Kristin L. Pruitt, Lake City Bank president. “As a community bank, we’re delighted to participate in this event that supports local organizations making life better for everyone.”

Bethel students, faculty and staff will serve together throughout Michiana. The day will start at 9:15 a.m. in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center on Bethel’s campus, where individuals will divide into groups and leave campus to volunteer at more than 20 local sites. South Bend Schools will be assisting with transportation by bussing students to the work sites.

“Serving others is intricately related to our mission at Bethel. We exist to ‘equip the whole person for lifelong service.’ This must involve more than mere talk; it must be a practiced reality,” says Shawn Holtgren, Ph.D., vice president for spiritual life and university affairs. “Service Day is a purposeful event that allows students, faculty and staff to serve alongside one another, becoming like Jesus in serving others. It is our hope that this event will inspire our Bethel community to make service to others a regular part of their everyday lives.”

There will be a variety of locations served this year, including Food Bank of Northern Indiana, Hello Gorgeous!, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana, John Young Middle School, St. Margaret’s House, The Unity Gardens, Reins of Life, Family Justice Center of St. Joseph County + CASIE Center, Transformation Ministries, among others. The day will wrap up around 1 p.m., with students, faculty and staff returning for lunch in the Dining Commons. All classes before 6 p.m. are canceled so that students and faculty may participate.
